Aerobic and Anaerobic Exercise: Benefits and Risks

When starting any type of exercise, there is always some risk associated. Whether this risk be pulling a muscle that you haven’t used for a while, or causing other minor injuries. However, there are tons of benefits to exercise that often outweigh the risks. This is true of aerobic and anaerobic exercises! Both of which, most people have in their workouts throughout the week.

Anaerobic Exercise Examples List

There are several types of anaerobic exercise examples that many people are doing throughout their workout. These include:

  • Jumping rope
  • Lifting weights
  • Hill climbing
  • Isometrics
  • Sprints
  • Interval training

Basically this type of exercise works the muscles fibers, leading to stronger and bigger muscles.

The benefits of this is that it can be a great workout that makes you feel the burn. But, it cannot be done for extended period of time until you feel the burn and risk pulling a muscle or suffer a muscle tear. This does cause lactic acid build up, which is why it should not be done for long periods of time.

Aerobic Exercise Examples List

Some of the aerobic exercises that many people do include:

  • Running
  • Swimming
  • Walking
  • Hiking
  • Dancing
  • Kickboxing
  • Cardio on machines like treadmills, etc.

These are exercises that also work muscle fibers, but they help to increase muscle endurance, and it works the heart more to pump more blood. These types of exercises can be sustained over an extended period of time. However, they do have risks as well. You could also pull a muscle, fall while running and injure yourself in this manner, or even get the heart pumping too much and experience chest pains. The benefits of these types of exercises is that since it does increase the heart pumping it can help with overall heart health. Plus, these are the types of exercises that many people do in order to help lose weight.

The best option for those who are starting a workout is to have an overall goal of doing both aerobic and anaerobic activities. This way, they are not only helping to increase blood flow and build up muscle endurance, but they are also building up muscle strength. This way, you are shedding fat, but also helping to build the muscle, which is the result of a well-balanced workout routine.
