From time to time, we all like to partake on a drink or two, or even more if it has been a stressful week. However, for those who are trying to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, they often worry about alcohol and fat loss. Does alcohol make you fat? That is the question of the day!
The good news is that the alcohol itself is not going to make you fat. However, the bad news is that it can be a contributing factor in gaining weight. Why is this? There are several reasons. For one, when a person drinks, they are taking in calories that they are then adding into their daily calorie count. Not many people are going to do anything but drink, they are going to be eating with this, which means you are taking in a ton of other calories!
Secondly, you will find that when drinking alcohol, it actually stimulates your hunger. You may have eaten a few hours ago, but after a few drinks, you will find yourself hungry again. In fact, alcohol is often recommended to those who are having issues with eating as it does increase their desire to eat.
There have been tons of studies done that showcase some types of alcohol are actually good for you. For example, having a glass of red wine has been shown to be heart healthy. Just like having a tumbler of liquor in moderation is not going to do as much damage. It is when this is combined with unhealthy eating that it causes the problem.
Plus, you will find that those mixed drinks out there are full of sugars...and this can lead to fat gain. The best advice is that if you are going to drink, do this in moderation. And drink things that are not full of sugars. For example, hard liquors, some beers and wines. You will want to avoid those fruity drinks that are made with tons of fruit juices and liquor, as they are going to have enough calories for one meal just in one drink.
So, does alcohol make you fat? The answer is yes and no. Many times, those who drink a lot are combining this with poor eating decisions, which makes their bodies store more fat. If you drink and do this smartly, you will find that it will not result in fat gain.
