Peel-off face masks are trendy beauty products because of their ability to deep cleanse the pores, remove toxins, and refine skin texture. They can be expensive to buy and often come with undesirable and unnecessary ingredients such as chemical preservatives and fillers. The good news is, it is easy to make a peel-off face mask at home and personalize it to your skin type.
You can create a peel-off face mask at home for dry, normal, or oily skin by varying the ingredients. The essential ingredient in a peel-off face mask is agar agar, which is a seaweed-derived ingredient that forms a gel in hot water and creates the peel-off mask once it dries on your skin. Then, you can vary the additional ingredients depending on your skin type and individual needs.
The basic ingredients and method for each mask are as follows:
1 tbsp agar agar powder
1 cup of pure water
1 herbal tea bag (type depends on your skin: see recipes below)
Bring the water and tea bag to boil in a small pan. Once it is simmering, turn the heat down to low, remove the tea bag and stir in the agar agar powder, mixing all the time until a viscous gel-like consistency is formed. Turn the heat off and add in the required extra ingredients depending on your skin type. Allow the mixture to cool enough so that you can apply it to your skin without burning, but it should still be nice and warm.
To Use:
Apply the mask in an even layer all over your face, avoiding the sensitive eye area. Leave until cooled and hardened, then peel off.
