5 Filling low-calorie snacks

Do you love snacks and want to know which options you can go for that are satisfying, low-calorie and fill you up?

If you have recently had a full meal and hunger strikes, it is recommended to first figure out if you are actually hungry. Snacking can become a habit, whether it be from boredom, pure habit or even dehydration. So if you know you properly nourished yourself shortly before, try having a hot herbal tea or slowly drink some water. If after 15-20 minutes you are still hungry, go for one of the many filling low calorie snacks!

Here are 5 of the best low calorie snacks that fill you up!

Low calorie filling snacks

1. Oats

Oats are full of fiber and extremely filling. You can make them in the traditional way over the stove or make overnight oats so that you have a cold and slightly crunchy satisfying snack. Keep your portion size small, as a small portion of oats goes a long way for a snack.

2. Berries

Berries are fresh, healthy and just sweet enough. You can sprinkle some cinnamon on top or even drizzle some lemon juice over strawberries to make them extra special. This is a great snack to turn to when you just need ‘a little something’.

3. Chia seeds

This may not be a traditional snack, but you can add 1 tbsp of chia seeds to your water. Chia seeds are full of omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants and are quite filling. Or you can make chia seed pudding!

4. Soup

Soup is a great dish to meal prep so that you always have something on hand for when you are in the mood for a snack.

5. Green smoothies

Green smoothies are packed with nutrition and you can tailor them to your taste buds. Pack in the frozen spinach or green of your choosing, add some protein powder, fruit, cucumber, ice and either water or nut milk of your choosing.


Consider what you want out of your snack. Do you tend to go for crunchy snacks, sweet snacks or salty snacks? Here are some other ideas: If you like crunch, go for some celery or cucumber. If you like sweet, have a yogurt with berries and a sprinkle of cinnamon. If you like salt, celery is also a great option! You can even juice celery for a refreshing salty snack.
