When you wake up, what you do or do not eat for breakfast can make all the difference for the rest of your day. Starting your day with a healthy meal that will sustain your energy levels throughout the morning will help you lead a more productive and happy day (that is, if you are not intermittent fasting).
If you love a delicious breakfast and simply need some inspiration, let’s go on to learn some low-fat breakfast recipes and ideas:
If you select egg whites rather than the whole egg, you can create a go-to low-fat breakfast. If you are pinched for time, you can purchase cartons of only egg whites. Choose your favorite omelet combinations, preferably with vegetables for a filling and healthy breakfast. Switch up the vegetables that you use, and add in some spices such as turmeric and black pepper for some different flavors.
A healthy low-fat breakfast does not require that you omit yogurt! You can purchase fat-free yogurt and still make your favorite yogurt breakfast combinations.
Top with some fresh fruit, such as sliced strawberries or blueberries, and/or healthy granola.
If you find yourself saying that you just don’t have the time in the morning to make a healthy breakfast, overnight oats are a healthy and filling breakfast that will start your day right. Oats are high in fiber and protein, two nutrients that help you feel full and keep your digestion healthy.
In a mason jar, combine all your favorite oatmeal ingredients. For example, add ½ cup old-fashioned oats, apple, raisins, cinnamon and 1 cup of your favorite milk (perhaps oat milk?). Simply put the filled jar in the refrigerator overnight and wake up to an already prepared breakfast! This is great to take with you on the go, as well.
For a delicious and refreshing breakfast that will also help you get some greens in, a green smoothie is a wonderful breakfast option. The yogurt/avocado provides creaminess for the smoothie, but you can also swap it for an even lower fat option of steamed then frozen zucchini.
Ingredients: ½ cucumber 1 cup frozen spinach Plain fat-free yogurt or ¼ avocado ½ - 1 tbsp ginger 3-5 ice cubes Water
Remember that breakfast sets the tone for the rest of your day! Eating a healthy breakfast full of whole foods will help you kickstart your day and feel like you got off to a good start. Remember to optimize your diet to consume the right levels of protein, fat, and carbohydrates for your body.
