Popcorn Weight Loss: Here’s the Truth!

One of the tales out there for those who are looking to lose weight is to drink plenty of water, which is great. But, there are also tales of using popcorn for weight loss. People suggest that popcorn is a low calorie option that is going to make you feel fuller and help with calorie control, thus promoting weight loss. But, is this true? And if so, does any type of popcorn work for these types of effects?

Is popcorn good for losing weight?

The answer to whether popcorn is good for losing weight is yes! Why is this? Think about popcorn and the fiber content that this has. It has a tons, which is going to help you feel fuller. Plus, this is a food that you cannot eat really fast, so this also adds in helping to curb hunger. If you are a snacker, popcorn can be a great way to replace high-calorie snacks. To put it into perspective, you will find that 8 cups of air-popped popcorn only has 244 calories!

Does popcorn make you fat?

When you talk about eating popcorn for weight loss, this is talking about an air popped popcorn that does not contain any butter. To put this into perspective, a cup of popcorn that you were to get at the movie theater is going to have 60 calories in just that one cup. Eating popcorn that are full of oils and butters is not helpful and it can make you gain weight. Thus, it is important to eat the right type of popcorn if you are eating this as a snack to promote weight loss.

What is healthy to put on popcorn?

But, what if you don’t like air popped, plain popcorn? The good news is that there are tons of other things that you can put onto your popcorn that are not going to add a ton of calories, so that it still offers weight loss potential. Some of these healthy options include:

  • Nutritional yeast: This adds a nutty flavor to the popcorn
  • Balsamic vinegar: drizzle this onto the popcorn and shake this together for an added twang to the popcorn
  • Cinnamon: If you have a sweet tooth this can be a great option
  • Honey: Drizzle a little honey onto the popcorn for that sweet and salty taste

Other things that you can add include almonds, raisins, seeds, pumpkin seeds and even dried apples. These are all healthy options that will add a different taste to your popcorn.
