Benefits of Low Intensity Exercises

When it comes to exercising, there are tons of exercises out there that a person can choose to do. However, one of these types that is becoming fairly popular is low intensity exercises. What are these exercises? These are the types of exercises that elevate your heart rate to about 40 to 50% of your max heart rate. For this reason, low intensity is often a great beginning set of exercises that a person can do without experiencing any significant issues due to working out.

For those who are considering low intensity exercises, they are going to find that there are several pros and cons to doing this. The benefits of doing these types of exercises include:

  1. It reduces the risk of injury to the joints because it is considered low impact.
  2. Since it is easier to do, most people stick to a low intensity exercise more often than if they were to start with something that is harder.
  3. It can help to improve your mobility and your flexibility.
  4. It is a huge way to work on your cardiovascular health.

There are a few cons to take into consideration as well. For example, since this is  a slower paced exercise, it may mean working out longer in order to get to your target heart rate. In addition, those who are looking to build muscle are going to find that low intensity exercise is not going to do this for them. It can help tone the muscles, no build these.

List of Low Intensity Cardio Exercises

When most people are looking to start a low intensity exercise, they are often after exercises that are cardio in nature. Here are a few ways that you can do these:

  1. Walking...this is the most easiest way to get in some low intensity exercise and can be done wherever you live, at a gym or the like.
  2. Use an elliptical machine. This is going to offer the same benefits as running without hurting the knees or joints.
  3. Swimming is an easy way to get in some cardio and thanks to the water, it is not going to injury your joints or muscles.
  4. Rowing machines are a great exercise that can be done indoors and is good cardio while also helping to tone the core, arms, legs and back.
