Oat Milk vs Almond Milk: Which is Best?

For whatever reason, due to allergies or dietary options, many people do not like to drink regular milk. Instead, they look for milk alternatives like oat milk or almond milk. Which of these is the best choice? It truly depends upon your situation.

Oat Milk

Oat milk is not as popular as almond milk, but it is still a great milk that is plant based. This is a dairy free, nut free and gluten free option, making it great for those who are on a serious diet for allergies. To produce this milk, the oats are soaked in water, then mixed in a blender and strained to give a milk consistency. The taste is not that far off from regular milk, so it is placed in cereal and baked goods.

Almond Milk

This is a popular plant based milk option for those who do not want to use regular milk. However, it cannot be used by those who have a nut allergy or are sensitive to nuts as this is produced from almonds. Almond milk is made from almonds that are soaked, then blended together until smooth. It has a subtle taste allowing it to be used for eating cereal or even when baking goods or other cooking recipes.

Oat Milk vs Almond Milk: Focus on Nutrients

While both milks are similar in taste, it really boils down to the nutrients that are found in these. Oat milk contains a high carbohydrate count when compared to other milks on the market. For those who are eating a low carb diet, then this may not be the best option for them. Oat milk can contain around 16 grams of carbs in one glass, while almond milk often only has 1 gram or less of carbs.

However, oat milk does contain more protein than almond milk, making it a great option for those who eating a protein rich diet. Oat milk often has 2 to 3 grams of protein, while almond milk often only has 1 gram of protein in it.

When it comes to calories, then oat milk is going to contain almost double more than almond milk. Oat milk has about 120 calories in one serving. Whereas, almond milk has around 60 calories in one serving. For those trying to cut calories, then almond milk is by far the best choice. Fat wise, oat milk has around 5 grams of fat, while almond milk has around 2.5 grams.

Which is better for you? For those who do not have nut allergies, they may find that almond milk is the best choice. However, oat milk is still a great option when compared to dairy milk.
