Cycling for Weight Loss: Does Riding a Bike Help Lose Weight

There are tons of ways that people try to cut weight each year. We all know that any form of exercise is going to be a help. However, for those who are looking to lose weight, they will find that not every exercise is going to help them like they thought. Cycling is one of those activities that many people consider. After all, it is less impact on joints than if you were to take up jogging or running, and it is an aerobic activity. So, yes, if you are looking to lose weight then cycling can be a great way to do this.

The key with cycling to lose weight is that you are going to have to push yourself. You are going to find that taking a leisurely bike ride is not going to get you the weight loss that you had hoped. Instead, you need to make sure that you are increasing the intensity of these bike rides to really get the heart rate going. While you may not be able to go at this hard from the start, you need to gradually increase the intensity, the speed and the distance to see weight loss results.

There are several benefits to cycling to help with weight loss. These benefits include:

  • It is a form of HIIT exercise.
  • You can do it at any time of the day.
  • It can be indoors with stationary bikes so you don’t lose out on those bad weather days.
  • You will find it easy to fit this into your everyday life.

Even better, you can start to use a bicycle for getting to work if possible, so you are getting in your exercise even before you have to work. The options are endless when it comes to cycling for weight loss.

A few other things to remember about cycling for weight loss:

  1. Always stretch before and after cycling because it is easy to pull muscles.
  2. Focus on how long to cycle rather than distance so that you can see improvements in this as you get stronger.
  3. Keep your heart rate between 110 and 130 beats per minute for this cardio workout.

If you are new to cycling, you are going to find that the benefits are numerous and that there are tons of people who do this. So you will never be alone in this exercise.
