Workout: Before or After Breakfast?

When do you workout? For many people, they fit in a workout whenever they can, whether this is before work, during a lunch break or after work. However, many people prefer to have an early morning workout. They often find that this makes their day that much better, they have more energy, their stress levels are lowered and they are simply ready to take on whatever the day has in store. But, should you be working out before or after your breakfast?

Before or After Breakfast?

When it comes to whether you should workout before or after breakfast, you will find that most professionals will tell you that this is a personal choice. There are benefits to doing either. For example, if you eat before you workout you may find that it gives you the energy that you need to get through the workout. Yet, it could also mean that your stomach gets a little nauseous from eating and then working out. Other times, those who are waiting until they end their workout to eat breakfast often find that the fat in their breakfast is worked off faster, yet many contend that with lunch not far away, this is not likely.

Ultimately, whether you decide to eat before or after your morning workout is what works best for you. And what you like to do. The most important thing to remember is that you do need to eat breakfast. So, if you are eating before your workout, be sure that you get up in plenty of time to eat a healthy breakfast and still get in your workout. The same can be said of eating after breakfast.

Best Breakfast Before a Workout

For those who are eating breakfast before their workout, they are going to find that the best breakfast before workout is going to be one that gives them energy and is low on grease and fats. Remember, greasy foods can cause some stomach issues if you were to go do a hardcore workout after eating it. You will want to stick to complex carbs that are going to give your body energy. For example, eat:

  • Whole grain bagels with fresh fruit
  • A glass of milk with fresh fruit
  • Yogurt and granola
  • Whole grain cereals with low fat milk

Keep it light and keep it healthy for the best breakfast before a workout. What matters is that you are eating healthy and working out, so you will have a healthier life!
